Chillin' With Dreadman on Bobby Brown
2008-04-10
We're always on the hunt for new and unique voices. So a few months ago when we started getting David Fennoy's "Chillin' with Dreadman" comics in our inbox, we took notice and followed the progression of his work.
For quite a while websites have been struggling with the concept of adding comics in a way that made sense for the web. Does it mean animation (which takes too long to make and thus can miss topical issues) or does it mean somehow digitizing the artistic process (something tough for old school comic artists to do)? In the end, David's unique way of using digital imaging to develop his comics turned out to be the perfect solution for us.
And we're glad to introduce his work here, twice weekly- and exclusively -on EbonyJet.com
David is relatively new to the comic world. While you may not know his face, you likely know his voice from dozens of Tv shows, commercials and award shows like Showtime at the Apollo, as well as some of the most popular vide games on the market. Here's his quote about why he got into comics:
"I was ducking sniper fire in Bosnia and...wait no, that's not it... Truth is, I spent many years as a radio personality, able to comment and joke about what was going on in the world. I've been off the air for a number of years now and think I finally just needed an outlet for what I see and feel about the world we live in with out having to actually write a book that no one would read.
I have to give a nod to Barack Obama also. His victory speech after winning Iowa inspired the first Chillin With Dreadman comic that I sent out to a few friends who were foolish enough say that they liked it and that I should do more. Since then I've created almost 200 cartoons and see no end in sight.
I hope my comments and point of view are a reflection of many who may not always see theirs in the media and a different perspective for those who don't. Always I hope to share a little bit about what's going on in the world and leave the reader with a smile, a laugh, or a reason to think. Oh yeah.. and it's fun!"
